About Vélo-Cité
19 years serving Avignon, since 2007 A bike workshop in the heart of Avignon, open all year round. We repair your bike, whatever the model, we rent bikes by the day or by the week, and we sell used bicycles fully refurbished in our own workshop.
And because Vélo-Cité began as a bike-taxi service in 2007, we still carry locals and visitors alike — mainly in summer and during the Avignon Festival, and by booking the rest of the year. Our British-built electric-assist trikes meet safety regulations and are made for the narrow streets of the pedestrian old town.

Bike repair
In the workshop, Vélo-Cité handles servicing, roadside fixes and full repairs on your bicycle, whatever the model or its age: city bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes, Dutch bikes, children’s bikes, fixed-gear, singlespeed, modern or vintage. A certified mechanic will give you a quote first.
We also work on electric-assist bikes: diagnostics, replacement of worn parts and full mechanical overhaul.
The most common jobs
- Punctures and tyres — inner tube repair, tyre replacement, puncture-proof tyres fitted.
- Brakes — adjustment, new pads, cables and outers, hydraulic brake bleeding.
- Drivetrain — gear adjustment, new chain, cassette, chainrings and cranks.
- Wheels — truing, spoke replacement, bearings and hubs.
- Steering and comfort — headset, stem, saddle, handlebars, grips, lights and accessories.
- Full service — a complete check of the bike, cleaning, greasing and adjustment, so you start again on a sound base.
The workshop is at 44 rue Guillaume Puy, inside the old town of Avignon, a few minutes' walk from place Pie and rue de la République. We also welcome riders from Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, Le Pontet, Montfavet and nearby towns.

A simple way to explore Avignon and its surroundings at your own pace — the historic centre, the banks of the Rhône, the island of La Barthelasse.
Our rental bikes, by type of use
- City bike — the most requested for riding inside the walls of Avignon: upright position, mudguards, luggage rack.
- Electric bike — for longer rides or hills, towards Villeneuve-lès-Avignon or Les Angles.
- Hybrid bike — versatile, suited to cycle routes and the towpaths along the Rhône.
- Children's bike — to ride as a family on the island of La Barthelasse.
Where to ride with your rental bike
From the workshop, the historic centre is a few minutes away: the Palais des Papes, the Saint-Bénezet bridge, the ramparts. Beyond the Daladier bridge, the island of La Barthelasse offers kilometres of flat, quiet roads. The ViaRhôna cycle route follows the river to Villeneuve-lès-Avignon and, southwards, towards Caumont-sur-Durance.
Every rental bike comes out of our own workshop: brakes, tyres and drivetrain are checked before each hire. Should anything go wrong during your rental, we handle the repair — that is the advantage of bike rental in Avignon taken directly from a bike mechanic.

By the day, the weekend or the week. The longer the rental, the lower the daily rate.

Vélo-Cité sells second-hand bicycles, overhauled and guaranteed by our workshop. Every bike is refurbished before it goes on sale.

- Second-hand mountain and hybrid bikes — for longer rides and the trails around Avignon.
- Road and vintage bikes — depending on what comes in, restored in our workshop.

Why buy a second-hand bike from a mechanic
Every second-hand bike goes through our workshop before going on sale: brakes, drivetrain, wheels and tyres are checked and replaced where needed. Buying an overhauled second-hand bike means a bike that rides from day one — and someone on hand at 44 rue Guillaume Puy if it needs adjusting later.
Stock changes regularly: call us or drop by the workshop, Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm, to see which second-hand bikes are available. We also welcome buyers from Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, Le Pontet, Montfavet and the surrounding towns.

From half covering panels on the back of the bikes to total covering in 360° (a panel on the back, the sides and the wheels), a range of formats is available on quote.
We can also carry flyers on the bikes, design your artwork, or handle the copy for your social media.

Do I need an appointment for a repair?
No. You can come straight to the workshop, Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm. We always quote before any work begins. For a bigger job, or to be sure we are available, a call to +33 6 37 36 48 89 saves you waiting.
How long does a repair take?
It depends on the job. Everyday fixes — a puncture, brake or gear adjustment — are often done the same day. For a full overhaul or a part we need to order, we give you a timeframe with the quote.
Do you repair every type of bike?
Yes: city bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes, Dutch bikes, children’s bikes, fixed-gear, singlespeed, modern or vintage. We also work on electric-assist bikes.
Are you open on Saturdays?
No. The workshop is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm, and closed on Saturday and Sunday. If you see different hours elsewhere online, these are the correct ones.
Does the bike taxi run all year?
The bike taxi runs mainly in summer and during the Avignon Festival. The rest of the year it runs by booking. During the Festival demand is high: please book ahead rather than calling at the last minute.
Are your used bikes guaranteed?
Yes. Every second-hand bike is fully overhauled in our workshop before going on sale. Stock changes regularly — call us or drop by to see what is available.
